President’s Message

Dear Friend of Mercy,

Welcome to one of the jewels of the Destination Midtown rejuvenation–Mercy High School!

Mercy High School is an all-girls secondary high school founded by the Sisters of Mercy in the tradition of their founder Mother Catherine McAuley.  Catherine’s vision was “No work of charity can be more productive of good to society than the careful instruction of women.”

In 1864, the Sisters of Mercy brought that vision to Omaha and have been here for nearly 150 years.

Mercy High School is one of 40 members of the Mercy secondary school network in the United States, Latin America, Guam, and the Caribbean.  All these schools are dedicated to Catherine’s vision.  Mercy High School is accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education, AdvancEd (formerly known as the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges) and a member of the National Catholic Education Association.

The Class of 2014 accomplished many things.  Here are a few academic highlights:

  • The 82 members received scholarships worth more than $5.6 million from universities, colleges, businesses, or foundations.
  • 100% of these Women of Mercy have chosen to pursue secondary education immediately upon graduation and 65% of them earned scholarships.
  • 15% of the class scored a 30 or higher on their ACT.
  • They completed nearly 10,000 service hours over the past four years.

YOUR support and prayers, joined with these young women’s hard work and family support, are why the Class of 2014 and the past and future classes are successful Women of Mercy.  Mercy welcomes students from all academic, social, and economic levels of Omaha and the surrounding area.  Our Negotiated Tuition Program is what makes it possible to welcome these families.  Negotiated Tuition is the concrete demonstration of our belief that access to quality faith-based education is an option for any young woman.  All families pay a tuition cost based on their individual situation, negotiated in a private conference with the school’s President.

When YOU respond to the annual appeal, make a memorial donation, support FIESTA (Friends in Earnest Supporting Tuition Assistance) or the  Driving for Excellence Golf Fest, purchase items from the Red Wheel Fall Fundraiser or the Spring Plant Sale,  include Mercy in your estate planning and remember us in prayer–YOU are part of their success.  YOUR support makes a transformational difference in lives every day.

God bless you,

Sister Delores Hannon, RSM
